Ken’s passion for calligraphy and its complimentary skills have endured for over thirty years, as has his Masonic life. His initial training was in night classes but later benefitted by full time education at the Reigate School of Art and Design where he studied calligraphy, heraldry, gilding and illumination. He is a member of the Society of Scribes and Illuminators.

In later years he enjoyed commissions from IBM, Duke of York’s Award Scheme and numerous private organisations and individuals.

Now in semi-retirement, Ken enjoys watercolour painting as well as maintaining his calligraphic skills by teaching the subject locally. However, he believes that his knowledge of Freemasonry and its ornaments have particularly equipped him to prepare beautifully adorned and gilded documents for Lodge presentations and use.

Moreover, because he derives pleasure from such commissions and now views his work as a ‘paying hobby’, his rates are very reasonable.
